ClicTabs Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 6, 2026

The short version
ClicTabs reads the titles and addresses of your open tabs to save them on your computer. They never leave your computer, except to your own Google Drive if you turn the backup on, and they are never sent to us. If you sign in, we only know your email and whether you're on a trial, the free version or Pro.

ClicTabs is a Chrome extension made by ClicAuto, the trading name of The U-Shaped House LLC (a Delaware limited liability company), 1925 Grand Ave, Ste 129, PMB 83841, Billings, MT 59102, USA. We are responsible for your data. This page explains what data ClicTabs uses, why, and what you can do about it.

What ClicTabs reads, and where

When you save a session, and when an automatic snapshot is taken (every 30 minutes and when a window closes), ClicTabs reads the title, address, icon, pinned state and tab group of each open tab, in every window except incognito windows. Incognito windows are never read and never saved. ClicTabs never reads the content of the pages, what you type, or your browsing history. All of this happens in your browser. Chrome shows this as "Read your browsing history" because tab addresses count as browsing activity.

What stays on your device

  • Your saved sessions and automatic snapshots, stored in Chrome's storage for this extension on your computer. They are not synced and not sent to us. Automatic snapshots are kept 7 days in full, then one per day for 90 days, then deleted. Sessions you saved yourself are kept until you delete them. Uninstalling ClicTabs deletes all of them.
  • Your settings.

Your Google Drive backup (Pro, only if you turn it on)

If you turn on the daily backup, ClicTabs asks Google for permission to create files in your Drive and to see only the files it created (Google calls this permission "drive.file"). Every day it writes two files (a readable page and a data file, with the titles and addresses of your saved tabs) in a folder named "ClicTabs Backups" in your own Google Drive, and deletes the ones older than 30 days that it created. ClicTabs cannot read anything else in your Drive. The backup goes from your browser to your Drive directly: our server never reads or writes your Drive, and the files are yours. The permission is managed by Chrome, and you can revoke it anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions; the backup then stops and the files already there stay.

What we receive, and why

  • Your Google account email and Google account ID, when you sign in. We use them to start your free trial, link it to you, and manage your subscription or license. To check who you are, the extension sends us a Google token: we check it with Google and never store it. Nothing else from your Google account is read or stored. You don't need to sign in to use the free version.
  • Your trial, subscription or license status (start date, end date, active or not). This decides whether you can use Pro, the Drive backup.
  • Payments are handled by Link, a payment service by Stripe. Link is the seller of record: it sells ClicTabs subscriptions and licenses on our behalf, takes care of taxes and keeps the payment records; its own privacy policy applies to that. Link receives your payment details, billing address and email. Stripe sends us your email and billing details with each purchase; we only use and keep your email, your Stripe customer ID and the status of your purchase. We never see your card number and we don't issue invoices.
  • Your confirmation when you buy that your subscription or license starts right away (see our terms), with its date and time.
  • An anonymous install signal, sent once, when you install ClicTabs: the extension version and your browser language, nothing else. It is only counted: no IP address is stored and no identifier is attached.
  • Newsletter, only if you opt in. The box is unticked by default. If you tick it, we record your choice with its date, and we may email you when ClicAuto launches a new tool. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. We haven't sent any newsletter yet.
  • Technical error logs, to keep the service running. They can contain your account number or your Stripe customer ID, never your tabs. We don't keep logs of your requests, and your IP address is only used in memory to limit abuse; it is never written to disk.

Legal basis

We use your email, Google account ID and status to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract). We keep your confirmation that your purchase starts right away because consumer law requires it (legal obligation). The newsletter relies on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link or by email. The install signal, error logs and internal alerts rely on our legitimate interest in running a reliable service and knowing how many people install ClicTabs.

What we never collect

Your tab titles and addresses, your sessions, your snapshots, the content of the pages you visit, your browsing history, your Drive files, your contacts, your location.

Who processes your data

  • Our servers: Hetzner Online GmbH, Falkenstein, Germany. Encrypted backups: Hetzner, Helsinki, Finland. Both are in the European Union.
  • Emails about your trial, subscription or license: Resend, Inc. (United States), sending from its European Union region (Ireland).
  • Payments: Link, by Stripe, the seller of record.
  • Sign-in: Google. Your Drive backup, if you turn it on, is kept by Google in your own Google account, under Google's terms.
  • Internal alerts: Telegram (Telegram FZ-LLC, United Arab Emirates). We get a private message when someone starts a trial, buys, cancels or has a payment declined. Emails in these alerts are masked (like p•••@gmail.com). Only one alert shows a full email: when a payment matches no ClicTabs account, it shows the email given at checkout, so we can link the payment to the right account by hand.

We don't sell your data, we don't share it for advertising and we don't use it to train AI models. Resend, Link, Stripe and Google may process data in the United States; they do so under their own safeguards for international transfers. Telegram processes our alerts outside the European Union, which is why the emails in them are masked.

Google user data and Limited Use

ClicTabs's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. When you sign in, we receive your email address and Google account ID, and use them only to run your account. If you turn on the backup, ClicTabs uses its Drive permission only in your browser, to write, list, read and delete its own backup files in your Drive. Nothing else from your Google account or your Drive is read or stored. It is not transferred to anyone, not used for advertising, and not read by humans.

How long we keep it

On your computer, automatic snapshots are kept 7 days in full, then one per day for 90 days; sessions you saved yourself stay until you delete them. In your Drive, ClicTabs deletes the backup files it created once they are older than 30 days; the folder and its files are yours.

We keep your account data until you ask us to delete it, or until we stop ClicTabs. Either way, we erase it within 30 days. To delete your account, email contact@clicauto.com.

Link, by Stripe, is the seller of record and keeps the payment records the law requires, under its own privacy policy. We don't issue invoices.

If a payment matches no ClicTabs account, we keep the email and Stripe customer ID given at checkout only until we've linked the payment to the right account; then we erase them, along with the alert that showed them.

Error logs are overwritten automatically by newer ones. Server backups are encrypted and overwritten within 12 months.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it, at any time: email contact@clicauto.com and we'll answer within 30 days. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

ClicTabs is not meant for children under 16.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell users by email.
